LandSAR Training - Navigation and Radio Message handling

On 11 May 2022 Auckland LandSAR conducted a night navigation exercise at the Eskdale Reserve in Glenfield.

Search teams were required to navigate to a number of checkpoints in the bush reserve. At each checkpoint the teams located a document describing a situation or incident. The team members were required to contact the search base by radio, and relay the relevant information in a concise form using correct radio procedures. The teams were also required to practice

AREC established a field base station operating on two VHF simplex channels to handle communications from the teams and keep a record of the messages created.
