On 8 June AREC set up a mobile comms base in the carpark of the Eastbridge Shopping Centre in Orakei to support Auckland LandSAR who were training in the nearby Kepa Bush Reserve. The SAR teams were trained in field first aid, and traversing steep and slippery terrain. AREC members took the opportunity to give some new members training in setting up a field base, including the use of the SARTrack SAR management software. All Comms used VHF simplex.

The improvised comms base attracted some interest from late evening shoppers.
