Search and Rescue navigation exercise

On 10th April AREC members provided communications support to Auckland LandSAR who were conducting a navigation exercise and fitness assessment. We set up a communications base and portable VHF repeater in the middle of the Riverhead Forest North of Auckland. SAR team members undertook a number of navigation tasks and an endurance march carrying full SAR kit, while AREC provided communications for safety and exercise coordination.

High winds and heavy rain during the day provided an extra challenge but we managed to keep the gear reasonably dry.
